Happy Sunday! It's been cool, rainy, and generally dreary here this weekend. However, I did have a great house guest overnight, and she was a breath of fresh air! These chrysanthemums have come back beautifully from last fall. Mums always feel like fall to me. Do you have a favorite fall flower?
I wish I could tell you the specific species of hybiscus this is, but I forgot to write it down. I can tell you it's one of the Proven Winner varieties. The petals look like butterfly wings to me.
I know you've seen some other plumeria shots already, but they're pretty, so here's another.
Have a great week!

Is it cake? Is it pie?
So, Tuesday was Official Taster's birthday. I love birthdays! For some reason though, he doesn't have the same attitude about his that I do about mine. I make it a month long celebration. I don't want to vacuum? It's my birthday. I want extra dessert? Birthday. (for those of you keeping track at home, January is the magic month) So for those nearest and dearest, I always try to make at least the actual day special. Obviously, if I can overdo it in the dessert department, I'm well on my way.
So last week, OT came home from work all excited. "Did you know there's this dessert where they bake..." I knew the rest: a pie into a cake. Yes, folks, he just let on that a) he missed a blog post and b) I actually knew something trendy before he did. I had already been contemplating attempting this Cherpumple feat, but that decided me.
On Tuesday, I made a two layer pie-cake extravaganza. The bottom layer is a spice cake surrounding an apple pie, and the top layer is chocolate cake surrounding a mixed berry pie. I frosted everything with just a basic vanilla buttercream, since it seemed there were enough flavors. I didn't do the most beautiful frosting job, but we wanted to eat!
So if, after reading about and watching the video, you were curious how it turned out, here's your answer. Awesome! No, really. Awe inspiring. Rich, moist, sweet, a sometimes strange mingling of flavors. Definitely worth a try!
Such an unassuming cake from the outside!

Etsy Love - Halloween Kitchen
I know it's been a while since I've posted Etsy treasures for your viewing pleasure, but today's is pretty fun, so I'm hoping you will forgive the lapse. Whether you use these wine charms for a party or just to decorate your evening glass, they're sure to cheer you up. (and yes, that pun was intended)
I love that this festive apron is nice and short. Cuter that way, no? It even has a shipping rebate.
If you're like me, you have lots of strange things on the fridge. Maybe new magnets will inspire some organization?
How cute is this spoon? It's small, but maybe having it will inspire some baking magic. Chocolate Pumpkin Cake, anyone?
This soap bottle could add some charm to even the scariest sink.

Sunday Flowers
Happy Sunday! I hope you are having a lovely weekend. The weather here is perfect, so I've been trying to get outside and enjoy it. This pretty pink flower is from my Camellia. I love the vibrant color and that it's just starting to bloom now, unlike so many other things in the garden. It's evergreen, so it looks good all year round.
This shot is of a Snapdragon I treated myself to in order to add some fall color. The flower shape is so unique!
What's happening in your garden now that it's fall? Are you overwhelmed with squashes? Planting cool season crops like lettuce, broccoli, and beets? (I did!)

Sunday Flowers
Today marks a milestone of sorts - this is my 100th post! Yes, there have really been 99 others of these, and I'm so glad that you all have stuck with me through thick and thin. This is a fun, creative outlet for me, and I'm impressed I still have things to say 10 months later. Thanks for reading!
The succulent above is a species of Dudleya, which is actually native to San Diego. It's got a white, sort of chalky substance, on the (modified) leaves to help it retain water.
As I mentioned last week, we also have pink Plumeria, and I promised you a show, so here it is!
