Happy weekend, folks! In case you missed it, this week was Jam Week. I included recipes and printables and lists, oh my!
- Red & Black Raspberry Jam and why I don't use pectin
- Raspberry Peach Jam and it's secret, glamorous name
- 10 of my tips to make your next trip to the farmers' market your best one yet
- Raspberry, Honey & Lemon Jam is my best yet
- Blackberry Peach Jam may not be glamourous, but it's definitely tasty
- What I've learned about canning. I'm confident you people have things to teach me!
- Free, Printable Canning Jar Labels round up has some winners even if you don't can
Hopefully, besides a dinner with friends, I will be spending the weekend doing as little as possible. Oh, except maybe finishing up my re-read of Harry Potter. Hmmm maybe I can find a way to ward off The Mondays?
Anyhow, onto this week's finds:
- In New England, reviving an heirloom corn that packs more flavor and nutrition
- Particularly of note for those of us in earthquake-prone areas, scientists find that one big earthquake can trigger others
- An article about a charity that simply gives money to the poor, no strings attached. More about it on This American Life
- From Al Jazeera, a blunt look at the lack of choice most mothers in the U.S face
- Doesn't really apply to vegetarians/vegans, but it turns out Julia Child was wrong about washing chicken
- From the always good A Practical Wedding, a smart piece about women, money, women entrepeneurs, and so much more. My favorite part (right this second, anyway): "Maybe the reason there are so few women CEOs in major corporations today is that women aren’t shying away from hard work, but we don’t like the way the game is played. The women who start companies have the chance to disrupt that game."
What are you up to this weekend? What are you reading these days?
Great selection of thoughts, each of which elicits more thoughts.

ReplyDeleteAaaaas I was saying, I enjoyed this review of carnival/fair foods from my CSA's blog. It helped me feel "summer isn't over yet!" http://www.fullcircle.com/goodfoodlife/2013/08/06/the-best-and-worst-fair-foods/
For my loaf, I've been saying Coconut CakeBread and definitely eating it with a fork :
there are so many things I didn't even know existed....
